BLAZING TRAILS, LAYING FOUNDATION, & BUILDING BRIDGES.
Dr. Matt Holder and Dr. Henry Hood are pioneers in patient care, education, and research focused on people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). They have long understood the healthcare disparities facing this community and the systemic odds stacked against adults with IDD.
To solve this problem, our founders knew they must address this issue from two sides. On one hand, medical students receive little to no education or training when it comes to caring for people with disabilities. On the other hand, people with IDD often have specialists who never communicate with each other – and many times never communicate with the person with IDD directly. As a result, Dr. Holder created a medical school curriculum model that links educators, students, and people with IDD. Universities across the nation adopted this program and it’s still going today.
Our founders also created the innovative Lee Specialty Clinic in Louisville, KY where multiple health disciplines sit under one roof and function as one team. This is where our founders met two patients that changed their lives – Trey Kramer and Terrance Davis. Dr. Holder and Dr. Hood’s model of care was a rarity for people with IDD and their families. Nowhere else did a patient’s physician, dentist, physical therapist, audiologist – the entire team – work together as one. Dr. Holder and Dr. Hood were eager to make this concept available to more people.
In 2023, our founders opened the first Kramer Davis Health clinic in Nashville, TN to give people with IDD a revolutionary option in healthcare. Finally, adults with IDD have a health clinic designed for them, by them – where they are the center of their own care.
